OtterCares Ambassador Spotlight: Meet Sarah!

September 05, 2017

Department: Customer Service

Why did you become an OtterCares Ambassador:

I have worked with and volunteered with kids since I was one, and I really wanted to help others discover a passion for volunteer work. I want to help people find that thing that lights a volunteer fire in their hearts.

Who or what has influenced your volunteer work (why do you volunteer?): My mom insisted that we give back when we were kids. We didn’t have much, but she wanted to make sure that we knew not to take what we had for granted. She wanted us to be citizens of the world, and I am proud to say that she didn’t have to push me to give back for long- I just wanted to do it.

Describe a volunteer activity you have been involved in that relates to the OtterCares purpose statement

I was volunteering at my home town version of Pack2School when I was still in school. It made me sad to see that some kids couldn’t afford basic school supplies, and it made me really grateful for what I had. I have been helping kids succeed through programs like this since I was 9.

Describe your favorite volunteer activity (either one time or ongoing):

I love working with kids, but I love animals too. Through OtterCares I have been able to volunteer with Hearts and Horses and I love being able to see the light in kids eyes when they get to do something as special as bond with a horse and learn a new skill there.

Why do you think the OtterCares purpose is important?:

Kids are our future, if we do not fight for them to have every opportunity, we are failing them. Teaching children that they have power and can help fight for themselves and their world is helping them to succeed and be prepared for the real fight when they grow up.
