OtterCares Ambassador Spotlight: Meet Erin!

Why did you become an OtterCares Ambassador:  Knowing that I can make a difference, in either a child’s life or even an Otter’s life. I can get the experience to know how to become a better leader. I can use being an Ambassador in my personal life as well as my work life.

Who or what has influenced your volunteer work (why do you volunteer?): There wasn’t anyone person or thing that influenced my volunteer work. I did it on my own. I started volunteering in 6th grade at a Nursing home next to my middle school. I would go after school and during student council. Just sitting and getting to know people and know their stories just inspired me to always help people.

Describe a volunteer activity you have been involved in that relates to the OtterCares purpose statement.  I got the opportunity to volunteer at the JA Finance Park. It was definitely an eye opener for me and I think for the kids as well. They got the chance to become adults in a matter of minutes and got to learn how to manage money, pay bills and save.

Describe your favorite volunteer activity (either one time or ongoing): I have always enjoyed volunteering with kids, inside the classroom or even at an after school event. I like to see the smiles on their faces when you are about to go and listen to all the questions they have for you. They are just so excited on how much time and effort is put into volunteering with them. I like to stick with the same kids year after year so I can watch them grow and develop and hopefully the things that I have taught them stick with them.

Why do you think the OtterCares purpose is important?:  Just as we always say we Grow to Give and we inspire kids to change the world. I believe with that one inspired child they can lead a whole pack into becoming the new future and make their generation successful. It only takes one hand to lead and a whole bunch of feet to follow.
