OtterCares Ambassador Spotlight – Meet Melissa!

March 22, 2019

Name: Mel

Department: Accounting

Why did you become an OtterCares Ambassador: I became an OtterCares Ambassador because it is such an amazing organization that helps those in our community. I also wanted to meet more Otters outside of my department!

Who or what has influenced your volunteer work (why do you volunteer?): I actually taught Calculus in college as a Supplemental Instructor, so that led me to trying Junior Achievement this year and I loved it!

Describe a volunteer activity you have been involved in that relates to the OtterCares purpose statement: Teaching JA for closed2open this year really allowed me to see OtterCares’ purpose up close and personal. I got to help 6th graders develop their own brand of popcorn and pitch their business ideas. There was so much creativity, joy, and learning all at once and I truly felt like I helped the students learn!

Describe your favorite volunteer activity (either one time or ongoing): I had a BLAST doing Habitat for Humanity with my Team last summer. It was so much fun and we all bonded over our hard work.

Why do you think the OtterCares purpose is important?: OtterCares empowers younger generations to believe in themselves, think outside of the box, and strive for excellence. I can’t think of a more empowering purpose and it is amazing that Otterbox gives us all the time and opportunity to be a part of it.
