August 13, 2015

Leo is a customer service associate manager. He leads his team of “minions” to not only delivery excellent customer service to Otter Products customers, but also to give back in the community and get involved with OtterCares!

FB_IMG_1430243986052Why did you become an OtterCares Ambassador? I love to volunteer and to my core understand the mission that OtterCares stands for. I wanted to be a part of a team that encourages others to reach out to the community and help make a difference. You don’t have to have expendable income to touch someone’s heart, by merely giving time and being there can leave lasting impressions.

Who or what has influenced your volunteer work? The most recent influence of many was during the 2014 Pack2School event. While I was registering a family I spoke to a little girl about what color of backpack she was going to get. At the time she said she didn’t know which one because there were so many to pick from. I let her know that I would be happy to help her pick one out if she needed help. Soon after, a woman from the front desk found me to tell me about a little girl that came up to her to tell her how blessed she was for the supplies. The little girl also mentioned that if she needed help to reach out to Leo because he would help. What was mentioned next really touched my heart; the little girl said that she “was going to say a prayer” for me. How wonderful is that!

Describe a recent volunteer activity you have been involved in: The Gardens at Spring Creek holds an annual Harvest Festival that invites families in to explore the gardens and participate in activities. The activity that I participated in was the Children’s Exploration area. Here, they got to create “Corn on the Cob,” Cinnamon Apples, and design their own carrying bag. The children were able to use glue, popcorn, crayons, dough, and most of all their imagination to make their items.

Describe your favorite volunteer activities:

  • Denver Pride Fest– A large scale fundraiser for a nonprofit organization that funds programs and resources that help the GLBT community live happy, healthy, and productive lives. The Youth program alone is a sanctuary for those finding their identity in the world. Everyone needs support, understanding and guidance, and the Center Denver gives it to them.
  • Pack2School-An event where families in need can bring their children to obtain school supplies for the school year. Seeing these kid’s faces light up as they get to choose their own backpack and supplies is priceless. What would have been a struggle for the parents involved, becomes a relief knowing that their children will have the tools necessary to learn and develop.

Why do you think the OtterCares purpose is important?: Community! It gets people involved in our own neighborhoods to build a better, more educated community. Even if the children we help happen to move, you know that because of OtterCares, they will take with them the lasting impression we left. Plus it’s SO FUN!
