Happy Birthday OtterCares!

“If we create the habit of giving in young people, it’s in the fabric of who they are when they grow up.” – Nancy Richardson

nancy-richardson_colorNancy Richardson had a vision – she wanted to establish an organization that would create focused and impactful change, creating a ripple while leaving both a legacy and an impact on future generations. In 2010, the OtterCares Foundation was formed and Nancy’s vision become a reality.

Since our founding just six years ago, the OtterCares Foundation has focused on inspiring kids to change the world through innovative education that inspires students to become entrepreneurs and philanthropists. By exposing students to entrepreneurship and philanthropy at a young age, these students will go on to create new businesses, creating new jobs and ultimately fueling our country’s economy while spurring economic growth. And not only will these students go on to create new businesses, these students will create lasting change through being philanthropic, giving their time, talent and treasure to make our world a better place.
Here’s a glimpse at what we’ve been up to for the past six years, with the help of the incredible employees that make up the companies of Otter Products and Blue Ocean Enterprises:

  • 33,000+ volunteer hours donated to nonprofit organizations where employees provide subject matter expertise, manpower and fun-loving energy.
  • 2,000+ grants have been awarded to schools and nonprofits in Northern Colorado and San Diego that share our mission of teaching and inspiring tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and philanthropists.
  • 8,500+ deserving Poudre School District students have received much needed school supplies through our annual Pack2School event (since 2011).
  • Through the Entrepreneurial Scholarship Program, we have helped Poudre School District high school seniors pursue their dreams of higher education.
  • 1,500+ students have gained understanding about the importance of philanthropy through our Project Heart education curriculum.

Through our partnership with nonprofits and schools, we have and will continue to teach students that their ideas do matter and that they can make a difference.

This is only the beginning and we’re just getting started. Our dream is for all students to learn about entrepreneurship and philanthropy each and every year throughout their education so that the habit of innovative thinking and giving back is natural.

The opportunities and impact we can achieve together are truly endless. We invite you to join us in our mission of inspiring kids to change the world!
