Giving a Gift that is Truly Extraordinary!

December 22, 2017

Ah the holidays – isn’t this truly the best time of the year? Snow, hot cocoa, and the desire to give help to make the season merry and bright!

For OtterCares, we like to help Otter Products get into the season of giving through our annual Not-So-Ordinary Ornament campaign. The Not-So-Ordinary Ornament is has a very extraordinary story. Each year, we ask students from a local high school to help us design and create one-of-a-kind ornaments that are given to Otter Products employees in exchange for a donation. Over the past 4 years, we have had some amazing ornaments! In 2014, 2015 and 2016, high school students from the St. Vrain Innovation Center in Longmont, Colo. designed glass and wood ornaments that employees fell in love with. Students learned about business contracts, sourcing materials, customer service, how to go through the design process, quality assurance, and packaging while making 1,300 ornaments. It was a great learning experience!

This year, we asked students in the Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE) Program at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, Colo. to help us out. These kids were super excited to take on the project and did an amazing job! The students worked together to come up with the design and then used a laser engraver to cut and engrave 1,350 metal ornaments.

To help kick off the Ornament campaign, we invited these incredible students to Otter Products so that they could talk to employees about how the came up with their design, how they created the ornaments and what they learned during the creation process.

Through the generous donations from Otter employees, we were able to provide special grants to 7 schools in Northern Colorado and San Diego to help further our mission of teaching students how to be entrepreneurs and philanthropists!

Congratulations to the following schools:

  • Ferguson High School in Loveland, Colo.
  • Preston Middle School in Fort Collins, Colo.
  • Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo.
  • Poudre High School in Fort Collins, Colo.
  • Colorado Early Colleges in Fort Collins, Colo.
  • West View High School in San Diego, CA
  • Meadowbrook Middle School in San Diego, CA

We can’t wait to watch these programs grow and inspire students to change the world!

BIG thank you to all of the Otter Products employees who helped make these grants possible!
