Ambassador Spotlight: Meet Sara!

saraName: Sara L.

Department: Marketing

Why did you become an OtterCares Ambassador: I became an Ambassador so I could support volunteer efforts and influence others to give back.

Who or what has influenced your volunteer work (why do you volunteer?): As the daughter of a teacher, I’ve seen some of the challenges in education. Although we have great schools, often times there are limited resources and support. By volunteering, I’m able to help with projects in the classroom and influence students.

Describe a volunteer activity you have been involved in that relates to the OtterCares purpose statement: I volunteer at Ponderosa Elementary School with second graders. I have worked with them on several projects, but one of my favorites was a ‘challenge’ to give to others. The kids made cards, created gifts, or even gave their own toys to other students. As the challenge progressed, you could see how excited they were to give.

img_0816Describe your favorite volunteer activity (either one time or ongoing): My favorite volunteer activity is the Monster Build for ‘A Monster to Love.’ A Monster to Love is a non-profit started by two brothers that sell stuffed monsters. For every monster purchased, they donate a monster to a child in need. These little entrepreneurs created a business dedicated to giving to others. How amazing is that?!

Why do you think the OtterCares purpose is important?: The OtterCares purpose to create change by influencing youth to become entrepreneurs and philanthropists is significant. This purpose supports the notion that we can influence youth and change the way they look at their potential allowing them to take advantage of business opportunities, consider social impact, and make it a priority to give back. OtterCares could provide that one opportunity for the next Steve Jobs or Elon Musk or support a cause that creates social change.
