2012 OtterCares G3 Challenge Donates Over $250,000

April 18, 2012

Over the span of just 24 days,OtterBox employees donated more than a quarter of a million dollars and pledged over 1,000 hours of volunteer work during our annual employee giving challenge.

On March 21, OtterCares granted each OtterBox employee a grant certificate to kick off the 2012 “OtterCares Get it, Grow it, Give it Challenge” or the “G3 Challenge.” Employees were then challenged to rise up and grow that donation to give to a charity of their choice. They were given three weeks to grow the donation through fundraising, personal contributions, volunteer time or other creative ways.

“There are so many incredible stories of Otters working together for a common goal,” said Nancy Richardson, OtterCares founder and president. “We challenged employees to rise up and they responded with an incredible rally cry of enthusiasm and action.”

On April 13, a total of $266,249.76 was donated to 156 charities, including 76 organizations and more than $200,000 specifically in Northern Colorado. This was more than double the original certificate amount, and more than triple the total donation of $75,000 made during the first G3 Challenge in 2010. Employees also pledged to complete 1325 hours of volunteer work for those organizations in 2012.

“These donations are a ‘thank you’ to those organizations that rise up to challenges every day,” Richardson said. “We have an opportunity to plant the seed of philanthropy in our employees and encourage giving outside of what we can do as a company; that’s the ultimate goal — to watch generosity grow organically.”
