Our Impact: Mission Spotlight

Fighting Fast Fashion with a Student-Run Thrift Store

School/Org Poudre High School
Location Fort Collins, CO
Funding Impact Fund
Year 2021

After learning the cost of fast fashion, Poudre's fashion and design students opened the Impala Thrift Store — a self-sustaining school business that keeps clothing out of landfills.

When students connect their passions to problems they see in the world, transformational impact happens.

Students in the Fashion and Design class at Poudre High School learned how fast fashion harms communities and the environment — and decided to do something about it. Their idea: open a thrift store at their school to keep clothing out of landfills. The Impala Thrift Store is now a self-sustaining, student-run business with real-world impact.

It’s entrepreneurship with a conscience, designed and run entirely by students.
